Random Post: Mountain Dew

Okay… I promise I’ll post something theological sometime in the near future. Probably. Classes and work have kept me busy so I’m looking forward to a break.

Reason for this random post: Mountain Dew

In college I drank an obscene about of this delicious drink. One time my roommate and I drank a 24-pack in two days. Yeah… that much. My wife always laughs about one story I tell. I drove to Wisconsin (from Seward) with some friends at the spur of the moment. Because we had some obligations Sunday morning we drove back Saturday night/Sunday morning. I walked into my room at 3:00 a.m. with my roommate and some high school students we were hosting still up, playing video games. I reached in the fridge, grabbed a dew, drank it in one gulp, and went right to bed. At that point, I was drinking it for the taste, the caffeine had no effect on me.

Random post done….

It is finished

I just finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. All I will say for the time being is that this was a masterful book with brilliant plot and character development.

Okay, I must pass the book off to my wife now. I want to talk about the book with her, but she will kill me if I spill the beans.

Home with Harry…

NO SPOILERS INCLUDED IN THIS POST

It is 3:30 a.m. I’ve been “home with Harry” for about 2 1/2 hours now. I am simply amazed at how excellent this book is so far. I hope to finish by daybreak. We shall see.

It was awesome to be at Barnes and Noble to see so many people excited about reading. I have long lamented about the lack of excitement for reading in our schools.  Hopefully, the excitement generated by Harry Potter will continue as other authors take up this task of writing for today’s youth. I will also note how funny it is to be sitting in a seminary class talking with 22-24 year old guys about how they think a book will turn out. Who would have expected something like this 10 years ago.

Shiftless crooks clutch over stick…

I love this. My wife hassles me constantly about my car’s manual transmission. My response is that with fewer and fewer people able to drive a stick shift, my car is less likely to be stolen (it also helps that it is a dirty 98 neon).

Sacristan Dream

I’m the new Sacristan for the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. I took over from Tutal. A sacristan does many things including taking care of the preperations for daily chapel services and general duties around the chapel.

Last night I had a dream that I showed up right before chapel on a Wednesday (our normal time to celebrate the Lord’s Supper) and I had somehow forgot that we were having it that day. Instead of waiting until I finished preparing the altar area they started chapel and things went crazy. Also, for some reason there were like six professors involved instead of the normal three. Very weird…
